I was advised not to use Clorox but I just got back into town and the FC is 2.5 and I can’t get to the store to get liquid chlorine before an afternoon get together. I do have Clorox bleach. Can I use that just for today?

Liquid chlorine and Bleach are the same thing. Just make sure your bleach does not have additives to make it splashless or scented, etc. Also you will need to note the strength of the bleach. If you are used to using 10% you will have to add more bleach if yours is 8 or 6%, etc. Just use the pool math app.

The issue is that Clorox now adds a polymer to the normal bleach (Cloromax) that is not something you want in the pool. However it doesn't specifically do harm and a small amount is probably less of a concern than allowing the FC to drop/remain below minimum.

In general though we now suggest avoiding normal Clorox bleach or any other that tout some sort of fabric protection.

My "guess" is that you could likely use cloromax for a good while before you notice any serious effects. TFP philosophy is that you simply don't put things in your pool you don't need and the polymers in there you certainly don't need.

So, avoid it altogether if you can but, like this OP's scenario, it is an unavoidable short term dose that will cause no harm.
