Clear Pool Turned Green after Pump died

You should follow the SLAM Process protocol.

Read the linked article.

Take care.

Thanks
I understand the SLAM process and have it printed out for reference.

But I won't be able to drain, refill, then SLAM until Saturday morning.

Since I have the Algae on the run already, do I still need to put a jug of bleach in tonight and tomorrow as was suggested in post 2?

Thanks Again
Chris W

Chris - see Post #20.. Go ahead and add some bleach. It will not hurt and will help kill some algae until you get to the full SLAM.

Take care.

A sump pump or a siphon. The sump pump is quicker, normally.

Were do you have to drain it to? Some municipalities have specific directives.

Take care.

Alright Started my SLAM Process

HISTORY:
Pool was Green CYA 90
Drained 60% of water on Sat and refilled on Sun from City Water
Last Night CYA W as showing 50
Last Night Added 1 Jug(121oz) 8.25% bleach, should have raised FC to 6.5
This morning using k-1000 TC was bright yellow indicating TC=5-10

Here is my 1st set of all readings using the TF-100
Today
Time= 6pm
Water Temp= 68
TC = 5.5
FC = 5.0
CC =.5
pH=7.2
CH=175
TA=50
CYA=40 (feel this more correct than last night, better lighting, and I am getting better at it)
According to the PoolMath added 1.7 jugs of 8.25% bleach to raise to FC to 16 at 6:45pm
Will recheck FAS-DPD @ 8pm & Update

Sounds good. The more often you can test your FC and dose with bleach the better. It will slow down on the consumption of your FC after a day or so.

Take care.

Here is 24 hour update
Pool is blue, less cloudy than previous.
Has been since the 4th jug of bleach I put in on 10/18.
1 jug bleach 10/19. TF-100 received CYA=95
1 jug bleach 10/20
Drained 60% of water on 10/21
Refilled on 10/22
1 jug bleach on 10/23 CYA=40

Date. . . . . . . Time. . . . . . FC. . . . . CC. . . . . TC
10/24/2017 6:00 PM 5.0. 0.75 5.5. Backwashed/rinsed
10/24/2017 8:20 PM 14.5 0.75 15.5
10/24/2017 9:35 PM 15.0 0.75 16

10/25/2017 7:45 AM 14.0 0.75 14.75
10/25/2017 8:30 PM 12.0 0.25 12.25

The .75 CC's 1 drop sample barely tinted pink, 2 drop clear
The .25 CC sample barely tinted pink, 1drop clear
After each test added bleach to get back to 16ppm

TIA for insight or comments

POP - Pool owner patience. Especially with a Sand Filter.

Your FC could be bumped to 20 as now you are showing a CYA of 45 that we round up to 50.

CC does not mean much until you run your Overnight Chlorine Loss Test.

To speed things up you can add some DE to your sand filter if you can babysit it. See Pool School - Add DE to a Sand Filter

Take care.

Hi guys and gals!
Pool is much much Clearer, but not crystal clear, maybe 85-90% clear
10/29 pm FC=14 CC=.5
Swept & Added bleach to get to 16
10/30 am FC=15 CC=0 (when adding the 5 drops of R-0003, just barely a tint of pink)
10/30 pm FC=13.5, CC=0 (NO COLOR CHANGE)
Swept & added bleach To get to FC=16
10/31 am FC=15 CC=0
10/31 pm FC=14 CC=0

Do I need to continue SLAM Process?

Will add more DE powder after backwash.

Thanks Everyone!

So did you start your SLAM on 10/29? If so -- keep on going. Give it a week and then see how it looks. Sand filters take longer. Even with DE.

Take care.
