Cleaning Suction Side Pool Cleaner

I inherited a Hayward suction side pool cleaner from the previous owner of the house. Not super-impressive, but it seems to do a good enough job until we buy a robot.

Earlier today, the drive mechanism jammed so I pulled it out of the water, exposed the mechanism, manually ran it, and that seemed to do the trick. But I noticed that some crevices had a slight greenish film, presumably algae. My water is in spec and there are no water quality issues, but I'd prefer not to have this refuge for algae just waiting for me to let my guard down.

I'm figuring pulling the cleaner out and soaking it in a 5 gallon bucket is the easiest solution... but with what? Obviously I've got bleach and muriatic acid handy, but I'm open to other suggestions.

Bleach if it is slimy. Pour a 1/4 cup in a 5 gallon bucket. The FC will be quite high.

Your PoolMath log says that you have FC 2ppm and CYA 80ppm. Increase FC to the target range for your CYA according to the FC/CYA Levels.

Then, I would suggest to do an Overnight Chlorine Loss Test. There might be more algae. If yes, then you will have to do a SLAM Process.
