Clean up at pool opening

Thank you for posting this. I have the same issue. We are under 2 huge oaks (can't be helped) and we are incredibly busy in the fall skimming leaves and scooping leaves etc.
Somehow the snow came before the last scoop of leaves, and things froze. It's a black wasteland. I was hoping not to get things hooked up and running yet, since I'm in Ottawa Canada where it's 6 degrees right now (42F) but in light of how much work it is going to be, I think I will hook things up and get ready to get going.

I will test water first and - well, then I will make a plan i guess. Thank goodness last year I ordered the TFP kit when my Taylor ran out.

Moved from here.

Hi there. I live in Ottawa canada. While we had hot weather a few days, we are in a cold spell end of April.

My pH is super high (above the 8.2 - I’d say around- 8.6? I tested with the TFP kit.

My AGP is black from leaves. I have scooped most out but need to see the bottom better to know.

Can I add muriatic acid (liquid) to the pool before the pool equipment is hooked up? I don’t want to scale the heck out of equipment.

I am wondering if I could use a fountain pump to move the water etc.

I know it might sound crazy but hoping the experts will weigh in.

I did allow my water to warm up inside before checking pH and CYA again…
Salt is at 2210 so also low.

Thanks!

Until you have your equipment hooked up and the pool circulating, do not do anything. You need to have the pool well circulated before taking a sample of water for testing.
