I've had my SWG for about a year, I don't turn it off over the winter but instead float some tablets for when the water is too cold to generate chlorine.

About 3 weeks ago I noticed my pool getting a little green, so I scrubbed everything turn on super chlorine and had to leave town. Came back to a swamp last night. I'm a litle burned from the trip so haven't gotten out test the water but something is telling me the SWG isn't generating. I get no error lights... my salt level is 3000ppm, the generating lights is flashing like it should but my cell shows 0 amps doesn't that mean it isn't using any power to generate?

lets put this thread on hold for a day....

removed the cell, sprayed a strong jet of water through the cells and it seems to be ok for now.

Dannie... you know tht SWG won't produce enough chlorine to slay the green beast once its moved in, right?? Instead of having put the SWG on super boost, you should have used liquid chlorine and started a SLAM. It might have been a very short one if caught early. Maybe someone could have added a gallon of liquid chlorine a day for you while gone??

Copy that.. I'm actually heading out to pick up some acid and chlorine to do just that. I needed to make sure the swg was still working in case I need to reach out to the might.

Spent the morning back washing the filter and scrubbing the walls.

shocked the pool and it didn't take long to clear up. about 6 hours and the pool is blue again. Still cloudy, going to continue tomorrow, will probably clean the grids again and refill the DE and start with a fresh season.

Did you just shock the pool or are you SLAMing the pool? The big difference being you are maintaining the proper FC level for your CYA,

  • CC is 0.5 or lower;
  • You pass an OCLT (ie overnight FC loss test shows a loss of 1.0 ppm or less);
  • And the water is clear.
... and waiting until you pass the 3 criteria before allowing it to go down?

my CYA solution drained out from the cap going loose, so I have to order a new bottle. But in the mean time, I was at 14ppm FC yesterday down to about 11 today. Water is cloudy but this is probably due to me not refilling my DE yesterday after a backwash. since I was gonna clean it today. But otherwise green is gone. Won't be able to get to cleaning the DE filter till this late afternoon. My pressure is at about 18 at the moment maybe a tad higher from 12ish after a cleaned DE so it definitely need a good cleaning. I bet all the dead algae is glogging up the filter.
