Circupool Edge 40 Installation - SWG Conversion

So, I finally decided it was time to convert my pool with a SWG. I purchased the Edge 40 from Circupool. My issue is how to best install it. I have 14” of straight pipe going down in the return, but it’s very short coming out of the filter output. I’m considering installing the cell on the 14” vertical and replumbing up or out from the filter output and back to give enough straight run for the flow sensor. Alternatively, I could try to run vertically up right after the filter output or horizontally out and back. This way I would install the cell and flow sensor on the added plumbing and leave the 14” existing vertical alone. Wanted to see if any of you who are much more knowledgeable than me had any advice on what you think would be best? Photo of my equipment included for visual.

Going out and back might work if it doenn't need to be accessed there. (not drawn to scale / not enough room in pic)




Or go up. You'll have to hook out a bit for SWG clearance. The flow switch needs up flow so gravity won't close it one day when (not if) it fails.



You have dirt simple plumbing so I wouldn't worry much about the straight pipe suggestions. My 1st SWG with simple plumbing was 90'd directly to my heater (internal flow switch) and it worked below 1000 RPMs. (800 maybe ? My new one / pool works at 700).

Hey, sorry I forgot to mention there is a panel there in the front that has my power, pump controller, light controls, etc. If I go straight out it will hit that panel. However, I do like your last suggestion of coming up first and then out and down. I was hoping I might be able to fit it so it would go straight down to the existing pipe. But I think the edge cell is too wide for that so I may need to go further out and back in. There should be enough room before the panel for that. Thanks for the visuals!

Also, upon second look, I think what you’re seeing in the bottom left of my photo is the pool drain coming to the pump. The skimmer and side suction are right next to it and they all join and go to the pump. In front of everything is a panel with the controls.

Yeah. Look at the width of the sweep 90 pointing down and imagine sliding it to the plunger valve and twist it up and the up pipe will be way too close to the down pipe (about where the red line is). A skinny bottomed SWG wouldnt fit, and you got the fat one.

Yep, you’re definitely right. I wasn’t thinking of the 90 up plus the two 90s to go back down. In fact, I don’t think there will be enough space before running into the panel. After the 90 up from the filter I may need to angle out just a bit before coming back down. Then angle back in to meet the pipe. That way it goes to the side of the panel. Sort of like in the picture, if it makes sense. You can see in the picture how going straight out will hit the panel. There’s only about 13” from the outlet if the filter to that panel.

You can go as high as you need before hooking back to avoid the panel



Or go to the right which I would add a support for because it can't hurt. You'll probably need to do a similar hook to avoid the panel (not drawn)

Thanks again for the input. I got it finished up the other day so figured I would post the final result. Decided to come up and out at an angle then back in. Just to have room for the salt cell and make any work in it in the future a bit easier.

That looks great Ajonarii and makes alot of sense to me. It seems to be better mounted vertically so the cells are not laying in the water when the filter is not running. I am also adding a heat pump to my configuration and was wondering if you noticed any pressure drop since you did this.

Pool plumbing pipes are full with the pump off unless there is a leak. Kinda like sticking your finger over the end of a full straw. You can lift the full straw and the water stays up in there.

You think so Newdude, even on the return line where there is no restrictions going to the pool?

The water in the pool (both ends) is the 'finger on the straw'.

Any leak, anywhere, takes the finger off the straw and it drains to the water level, if it's not trapped in a loop de loop somewhere.

Thanks, I’m happy with how it turned out and seems to be working well thus far. As far as pressure, I’m assuming you’re referring to the water flow. I haven’t noticed any noticeable change in flow rate with my returns or my suction pool sweep. I did notice a slight increase in filter pressure after installing that caught my eye because I cleaned the DE filter when I was installing the SWG. When I got it all back together and running with an empty filter the pressure was higher even without DE in it yet. I’m assuming this is due to the vertical installation with extra 90s. My filter pressure previously was quite low. Now it’s around 9 psi with pump running full and a clean filter.

Also, you do not need to run at full speed.

You probably do not need more than 50% speed (1,725 RPM) for any reason.

Sorry, didn’t mean full speed as in the highest setting possible. Meant it as in my highest speed which is to run my pool sweep. I do run it a bit over 2,000 rpm to do so. That provides enough suction to run the skimmer and my pool sweep.
