Circulation direction for corner skimmers

I have an 18 x 36 rectangular pool. Unfortunately the skimmers were built only about 1 foot from the corner on each side. See attached photo. Skimmers marked in red.

I have always had the water circulating couter clockwise but had someone recently who swore that the water should be circulating clockwise. Which way should the water be circulating? I have tried both ways and most of the debris seems to bypass the corners each time it goes by no matter which way the water circulates.

Just curious what others have to say.

I think it depends if your North or South of the equator! :)

Seriously though, it shouldn't matter. Some pools just don't have perfect water movement/flow in every area, that's just typical I'd assume.
