Circuit Board Issue?

I have a Jandy RS controller system with an AquaLink One Touch control panel inside the house. The board and all associated electronics are the original equipment that was installed when the pool was built in 2004. The system will completely shut down at random times - blank screen on the One Touch panel, no lights on the RS panel, no display on the Aqua Rite salt system controller. I've checked the electronics, and all of the wiring connections are OK, and there is not an issue with power flowing to the system.

When this happens, I'm able to restart the system by removing the metal face plate from the controller, and pressing hard on the top portion of the panel that contains the buttons to operate the system (i.e., filter pump, heater, other functions, etc. - I'm not pressing the buttons, I;m exerting pressure on the entire panel). When I press that area, the red lights come on, then the system goes through a check where each light comes on individually for about a second, then the system comes on. When it does this, the system clock resets to its original date and time, but the memory of the function programming is retained. The equipment works as programmed.

Sometimes, the system will work for a short time and then shut off again. There have also been times when it will work for several weeks.

Has anyone experienced this and, if so, do you know what is causing it? I'm assuming it's a control panel issue. If it is a control panel issue, is that a difficult item for me to replace by myself? I've replaced pumps and valves but I'm not so confident with electronics. Thanks!

Upgrade to the IQ30-RS iAqualink and you get a new board and front panel.

If you can use a screwdriver and plug wires into a stereo system you can swap the board. No high voltage wiring is involved.

Document all your setup and programming in your current system as it will all need to be dedone with the new board.

Sounds like the input from the transformer is loose. It is an amber colored plug with three wires in it on the back of the board. If it isn't that, AJW22's advice is the answer. An 18-year-old "computer" that has been in every kind of heat, cold, humid environment, even in its enclosure, is due for replacement.

Agreed on checking the transformer plug, the tabs were broken off on mine and when I went to replace my PCB, it was almost falling off on it's own.

You can have it replaced in 10 minutes flat and that's when you're taking your time. Total piece of cake.
