IMG_1094.jpegBought a house with a 30 year old pool a year ago and have been using the TFP method successfully since then to keep it clean, balanced and maintained.

This weekend I noticed a chunk of plaster had come off the bottom and there’s now a crack starting in the remaining plaster - see pic for reference.

The pool is old and needs to be replastered. We’re saving up since we have to do the crumbling pool deck at the same time and it’s more than 100K to do the full project.

Looking for thoughts on how concerned we should be? That main drain is turned off and we don’t seem to have any leaks so far. But I’m pretty worried seeing chunks of plaster starting to come up. Thanks in advance for any insight!

It does not look like the gunite is exposed or the pool leaking. So it looks like you have a thin layer of plaster, maybe an old layer, maintaining the waterproof.

You know your plaster is at the end of its life. All the old palster will need a full chipout using flat chisels when it is redone.

The pool is talking to you that you should schedule the replaster sooner rather then later.

Thank you! How do I know if the gunite is exposed. Is it really obvious?
