Chlorine troubles

I am very confused with why my chlorine burns off within an hour or two after adding. I have cleaned the pool and also cleaned the DE filter grids. I added borax toy pool which is about 30,000 gals to bring my pH to 7.6. My TA is at 60 and my cya is at 40 currently which I plan to raise it to 50. My pool is crystal clear and clean, I added two gallons of chlorine and tested tw hours later and nothing. The next day I added four gallons and used my buddies Taylor test kit and the FC read 0. I see no visible alge at all. I am at my wits end trying to figure out what to do. Any help would be great.

Animal... can you test the pool water yourself? Or are you relying on a store to test it? Are you using the little comparitor block to see the FC, or do you have a proper FAS-DPD tester? That is what you NEED.
Do NOT raise your CYA until we know what's going on.
What type of Liquid Chlorine are you adding? Is it fresh? Check the date code... you want to make sure the year is at least '23.
so that none is older than 3 months. It weakens over time.
We need current test results from a reliable kit:
FC
CC
pH
TA
CH
CYA
Salt if applicable

If you can add 2 gallons of fresh Liquid Chlorine, mixing well with pump on, brushing... then re-test in 10 minutes and tell me how much your FC is?

I am using the Taylor 2006 that can test the FAS/DPD. The Chlorine is 10% HDX, our pool store is always out of the higher %. When I get home I will test the CH and add the Chlorine and retest.

FC 0
CC 0
ph 7.6
TA 60
CH unknown
CYA 40
Fiberglass in ground no salt water

I would recheck your testing procedure for it. Does the solution turn pink when you add the powder into the test vial?

Jason,

Even if your 10% chlorine was only 6%, 4 gallons in a 30K pool should have increased your FC by about 8 ppm. For 8 ppm of FC to be gone in less than 2.5 hours is a pretty good indication that you have algae.

Something is eating your FC, what else could it be???

You didn't use Yellow out or any other magic potion, did you?

Thanks,

Jim R.
