Hello all, we are new pool owners, as we just purchased a house with a pool. We had someone come out and balance the chemistry and this was two weeks ago. Since then, we have re-tested and the chlorine is too high, like off the charts high. We have left the pool out to the sun 24/7. We did have to replace pool equipment so for most of that two weeks period we did not have a working pump and filter. We don't know much about what the guy added when he came out but we have since fired that company because they left a ton of phosphate sediment at the bottom of the pool. In any case, we are wondering how long it takes for UV rays to break down chlorine? We have added fresh water as well. Two weeks seems like a long time to have chlorine stay so high. We have had very hot days especially in the last week, close to 100 degrees each day so there's lots of sun. Any tips for reducing the chlorine? We'd love to take advantage of our new pool!
