Chlorine Level not responding to TriChlor Tablets

My Chlorine on Friday was close to zero. The app recommended adding 13oz of TriChlor, but I have no idea how many pucks that means? I added two. My Chlorine level 48 hours later is 1.5. I live in Texas and the weather has been in the 90s this week.

Backstory - - My CYA was 200, because my pool company had 9 pucks in my chlorinator when I took over my pool. I ended up having to drain 2/3 of my pool to lower the CYA. I am wondering if there is a problem with my chlorinator since my chlorine level is only 1.5 after adding two tabs. I am afraid to add more tabs, because I don't want my CYA to get high again.

Do I add more tabs? How much is too much?

Why do you think the app recommended 14 oz of Trichlor? Can you post a screenshot of what you are seeing? The pool math app doesn’t really work like that…

Continued use of Tabs will quickly put you in the same situation of high CYA requiring another drain and refill.

Immediately switch to liquid chlorine only. Use pool math to figure out the volume. This time of year - a healthy pool in the area likely will likely lose 3-4 PPM of FC PER DAY from sun
exposure.

What’s your current CYA level? At 1.5 FC you are likely severely under chlorinated and at risk for algae development.

Long-term strategy should be investing in a Salt Water Chlorine Generator (SWG). No way I could live without a SWG in Texas

You should I post the most recent set of test results to help. Your chlorine level is too low. If your CYA is low, then adding more pucks is fine. If your CYA is over ~60ppm, then you should use another type of chlorine that doesn’t have CYA in it.

This is what the poolmath app says. I chose Trichlor as the sanitizer type and this is what it recommends.
I will switch completely to liquid chlorine, but I have a whole tub of tabs I hate to waste.
Is there any way to use the tabs or maybe some combination of both so the tabs are not wasted? Thanks!

They last almost forever if stored cool and dry. They are good when you could use a CYA bump, or for vacations if you have the wiggle room available to use them.

With a CYA of 60 (always round your CYA up to the next 10), you need to get your FC up now and keep it in range for your CYA. Always follow this...Link-->FC/CYA Levels
Next, you really don't want your CYA to get over 60. Switch to liquid chlorine. Over time, you CYA will degrade, when you get to 30, you can start to use pucks, but you may have to supplement with liquid daily to maintain your FC for your CYA.

I would get some LC in that pool and get back to range. You are risking algae.

I would also recommend that you do an overnight chlorine loss test to confirm you don't have algae. Link-->Overnight Chlorine Loss Test

The trichlor tablets take days or weeks to dissolve so it won’t raise your FC right away. You don’t have days or weeks to wait.

Post a full set of current test results from one of the recommended test kits.
