Hello,

After 8+ years of having an above ground pool without a liner I am finally getting it up and running.

I am looking to get a Salt Water Chlorine Generator and according to the manual for that my CYA is ideal at 80.

I have been reading through the website and according to the TFP calculator my Free Chlorine level should be 6-11 ppm with a minimum of 4 if my CYA is at 80.

I just got my vinyl liner today and the paperwork that came with it says that free chlorine above 3 ppm will cause excessive water absorption and wrinkling of the liner.

Based on my reading I understand that the higher the CYA the higher the FC must be due to the CYA binding the FC.

My question is, with my CYA at 80 and the FC at 8 ppm will that cause issues with the vinyl liner? What about at 10ppm?

Thank you for your time and expertise!

Our pool, installed in 2004 and still has the original liner, has used a SWCG since day one. I’ve been following the practices taught here for the vast majority of that time without issue.

Your liner (and wallet) are far more at risk following standard industry/pool store practices than by using the methods taught here.
