I didn’t notice if anyone checked the salt cell itself, but take a look at it. Now would be a good time to remove it and soak it in acid to remove visible build up. I use full strength white vinegar, but I know some use MA - I’m guessing diluted!
Show him what REAL clear pools look like! Many folks have never known how clear and sparkling their pool can be as they've been satisfied with pools we'd never put a toe in to.

He and his wife swim at my pool frequently, and have been all summer. He knows
