Chlorine depletion

Hi. Been keeping my water perfect but recently I’ve had a hard time keeping FC up. I’ve added 60 ounces of liquid chlorine recently to bump it. Fast forward to last night.

FC was at 1. I added 60oz of liquid chlorine later afternoon. Pump ran til 8pm. (I run pump and SW generator for 12 hrs/day. Sampled water at 8AM and FC still at 1. PH 7.6

Did chat with the pool store and tested. Same figures. Didn’t find any phosphates. Suggested I run super chlorinate for 24 hrs and see where we stand.

Just seems crazy that 60oz of chlorine would just deplete that quick. Hoping to wrap My head around it. Any thoughts would be great here. Heading out of town this weekend and want to make sure I Can trust it.

You likely have algae...even if you can't see it.

Can’t find the chlorine amount needed to SLAM my pool in Poolmath. Is it hiding somewhere? 7500 gallons

Go into FC from the home page. Enable the slam slider/on/off button...

SLAM FC = (CYA/10)*4.

So if CYA is 40, SLAM level FC is 16.

It may take more than that to complete the SLAM.

Nope. Add what you need to get to SLAM level.

Once SLAM is done how soon should I add stabilizer to get my CYA back up? Heading out of town for a couple days and hope to do so before I head out.

Just make sure you read, re-read, and fully understand the SLAM process. At minimum it will take 3-4 days of testing and re-adding chlorine to fully kill algae, then passing all 3 tests to return to normal chlorine levels.

Make sure you are completely done with the SLAM before you raise your CYA. Ending SLAMs early almost always guarantees that the algae will return since not all of it was killed. I understand that life gets in the way sometimes, so no shame if you are not done with the SLAM before you go out of town and have to pick up where you left off when you return.

Thanks. I’ll kick my SWG back on tonight before I head out and retest when I get back. Then I’ll be back for 3 weeks and can focus on it.
