Chlorine at closing

Hi there,

In anticipating having our pool closed this Friday, I added chlorine the night before last to bring the chlorine level up to the SLAM level (28 for CYA 70 in my SWCG pool), and it has hardly dropped at all now a day and a half later (24 about 2 hrs ago). Can I still add algecide and proceed with closing Friday as planned?

I don't see why not unless that algecide requires a lower fc level.

I did that at my last house/pool just before winter. Same level as yours.
It pretty much stayed there until things began to warm up months later when spring arrived.
Cold / clean pool water consumes very little fc.

Thanks. The "Closing an In-ground Pool" section of pool school refers to letting the chlorine level fall to half the SLAM level before continuing so that's why I was asking.
