This is our seventh year with an Intex pool. We find the cost spread over two yearts is really affordable.
Our first was a 10'x 30" Intex Easy Set. It lasted two seasons, side wall punctures and leaks on the top blow up ring forced an upgrade to a 12'x 36" Easy Set, it lasted another two seasons. But the small Intex pump failed part way through the second season. So I bought a 1000gal Intex replacement.
Our third Easy Set was a 18'x 48". It lasted two seasons and when the pump failed one month into the second season, I bought a 2500gal Intex. The pool only made two seasons as we experienced a number of leaks in the top blow up ring. So I decided no more Easy Set pools.
I really liked the Intex Pool Liner quality, so we bought a 16'x 48" Intex Ultra Frame. The setup was easy since we already had the packed down level space for an 18 footer. Cleaned up the spot and added 500# play sand threw down the tarp and set it up. I sold the 1500gal pump which came with the pool and used the 2500gal (second season) with the hose adapters. It really seemed to be a lot of stress with the adapters and the plungers but I did not use the larger hardware. The thought of cutting into the liner really disturbed me.
This season, preparing everything to set up the pool, when I was cleaning the hoses and the pump, one of the hoses came apart like a slinky! OMG ... I am in deep here. four days before the Memorial Day holiday and I have the pool filling with water and no ****ed pump, because I only had one freakin' hose.
So started browsing for new hoses and found this place. TFP >>> I LOVE IT. You people have shown me so cool stuff. I spent an entire day reading this site and absorbing all of the super creative stuff that many of you have done.
Today I went to Lowes and picked up a bunch of PVC adapters, valves, rigid PVC pipe & Flex PVC. I have everthing cut and dry fitted. I kept the the larger Intake and Discharge which were included with the 2500gal pump and have used the gasket from them as a template to mark the new larger holes to cut into the liner, on top of the smaller holes.
I discovered that I could not only use the nuts from the one shredded hose but I could also use the the nuts from the side of the plunger valves. So I didn't need to destroy the second hose for those nuts. I am also plumbing in a future connection on a "y" adapter line for a thru the wall skimmer (great idea), I ordered it last night.
Hopefully the pump will make it through this season. I doubt that the (WAF) will allow for the purchase of a sand filter a SWG and an electric heater, this year. Especially after spending $100 replacing one hose! I really want the heater. it gets very cool at night here. 84 deg today and going down to 57 deg tonight. So it's really hard to keep the water temp much over 67 deg.
I'll post some pics soon.
