Jack's Magic The Purple Stuff was added prior to 8/17. No idea what's in the water. There's nothing been intentionally or knowingly added.
The Purple Stuff is an HEDP (phosphonate) based sequestrant to control iron and copper scale. It does not cause an appreciable FC demand nor would it generate any CCs. It does, however, breakdown into orthophosphate (PO4) which adds to the phosphate load in the pool water (nutrients for algae growth).
Some pool stores can test for nitrates and phosphates. If it's at all possible that the pivots allow for fertilizer overspray to be carried on the breeze, that is a possible source. Also, if you're filling with well water that is contaminated from fertilizer run-off, that will be a significant source as well. Only testing can reveal what's in the water.
