CC doesn’t seem right

Never have algae problem. This year CC always at 1.0. No overnight chlorine loss. Pool is crystal clear( use borates). Reagent for CC is almost out. Is it possible the reagent is just old? I leave it inside and it’s only about a year old. When I put drops in it just gradually turns my water pink. Have a robot, been slamming, no change. If I was losing chlorine at night I would understand. The only place I haven’t messed with us behind the light. Water is very cold and never had a problem there. Could it be the reagent is out of whack since it’s almost empty?

Darren,

What test kit do you have? Can you please also post a full set of test results?

If your TF100 reagents have been inside it's unlikely they are bad. I use mine for well over a year and never had a problem. Many have CC climb to 1 ppm this time of year from pollen or debris in the pool. If your pool is clear and chemistry is within TFP ranges I wouldn't worry. But do watch your FC/CYA. Pollen usually floats on the surface and doesn't consume much FC there but it is then is trapped in the filter where it can consume FC. Some report successfully removing pollen to avoid this with a basked filter in the skimmer.

I hope this helps.

Since you're not losing any FC overnight, areas like old reagent or perhaps lack of sunlight to help with oxidation might be easy targets. If the light niche was an issue, I would expect there to be an FC loss overnight. One other thing to consider if it applies to you ..... some other items can increase CC like residual products from winterization or chlorine shock products with MPS. Those can also influence CC.

Thanks for the replies. It could be the pollen I suppose. Getting tons of it. But do not recall this issue in the past. Using pool shock from Menards- same as last year.

My ph is very stable, alkalinity 80, borates 50 CYA st 50 etc. AND the pool is crystal clear. I hate wasting chlorine.

Yes. Thanks. I use a skimmer sock to help
