I have a Carvin sharkwave 1.5 hp single speed above ground pump - aka Jacuzzi.
I didn’t get a choice as its the only pump Family Leisure carries. The pool was purchased Nov 2018 - installed April 2019. This summer I noticed the plastic casing warping 👇

I wrongly assumed it was from sun exposure (although it is somewhat shaded by my deck)
Well last week the pool didn’t come on @ it’s regularly scheduled time so I went to check & the switch just went floppy. So I checked the cord for power (which was good) & just turned the timer off & unplugged it until I could fool with it the next day.
The next morning I Pulled the cover off & sure enough the switch & wires were burned smooth up. 👇

the male prong fell off when trying to disconnect it. The back plastic cover only has screws @ the bottom which makes it impossible to get a proper seal around the top- especially w/ the warping. This obviously allowed moisture in.
So i wired it together after removing the switch & taped up all the openings.
Then I called Carvin to see if they might send out a new switch. I have a 24 month warranty.
The nice man - who’s in Canada by the way - says to take my original receipt to the place of purchase & they should replace the entire pump under warranty. I was skeptical.... dealing w/ FL is like pulling teeth. After multiple un returned messages & no one answering the phones I sent an email via their website. The next day I received a response.
“Hi Misty,
My name is Jennifer and I am with the service department at Family Leisure. I was forwarded your email regarding your pump. I’m sorry you have had such a hard time reaching us! We are quite short handed back there right now so it is a challenge to catch or return all the calls. Anyway, are you guys running the pool over the winter, or do you shut it down? The reason I ask is because the way this motor was made when you got it was with that plastic casing around it. This was a problem for all because it was causing the motor to overheat and causing the warping exactly like what yours has done. I do have one just like yours that we could replace now if need be, but if you are shutting it down and could wait until spring I’d rather get you into the redesigned motor that does not have that casing on it. I’m out of stock on this one until spring though. Please let me know which way you would like to proceed. If you’d like to wait I will go ahead and get a ticket made to have on hold until those come in. I can email you a copy of that ticket, or we will go ahead and do the other one now. Again, sorry for the difficult time in reaching me and so glad you reached out via email! Talk soon-Jennifer”
Soooo, they knew this was a problem all this time? I guess things like this don’t get recalled? This pump has always seemed hot & loud but I have no previous experience with such a large pool pump to compare to. I have also never tried to “take it’s temperature”.
I opted for the new improved replacement.
I am so glad that this happened before my warranty was up & that it wasn’t worse.
Thankfully my pool is running & the motor isn’t complete toast.
I am posting this for others so they too may call & inquire about a replacement.
Hopefully I will get to keep this one as a back up.

Yeah, I thought it was weird too but then on the flip side -I was thinking no rust. I never thought about warping/ melting plastic.
I don’t have the replacement yet as they are on back order but they seem like they will definitely make it right. So long as I follow up. They are a very busy store so it is just always hard to get ahold of them & its an hour away from my house so It’s not practical to just run over there.
