Ah! I had a power surge and my pump/motor went into Safe Mode. I used the method Up arrow, Down arrow, and #1 for 3 seconds and the motor started up. The pump runs continuously now at the lowest programmed speed but I have been unable to set the clock. I assume that I have to stop the pump to reprogram the clock but when I attempt to stop the motor from the external Easy Touch control panel by placing it in service mode nothing happens. Before I attempt anything else I will ask what should I do next to you folks taht are more experienced with these Pent Air VS 342001 machines than I am.

Pav,

Most VS pumps are wired direct to AC power and the Pentair SuperFlo is not actually designed to be controlled by the EasyTouch, so I am not surprised at all that putting the EasyTouch in the Service mode has no effect.

Can you tell us more about your system? Please verify that the pump is a SuperFlo and not the IntelliFlo... A picture would be great...

Were you able to turn the pump off using the Service mode before the power surge? If so, does your pump have a small cable with five or 6 wires going between the pump and the EasyTouch?

Were you able to change speeds using the EasyTouch before the power surge? If so, how did you do it?

I would think that you should be able to use the pump's control panel to reprogram the internal clock?

Thanks,

Jim R.

Rec'd a PM from Pav with the following info...

My pump is a Super Flo 342001, 1.5 HP and was designed be a direct replacement to the single speed Pent Air Super
Flo as I am sure you know. However, it was not designed to connect up easily to the Easy Touch system but it was and was working fine until the 28 hour power outage. Once the power was reestablished the pump indicators would all blink and the pump would not run by any normal reset means.

The pool service guy has been using the service mode successfully until the power outage.

Since the power outage I have found a way to reset the pimp by using Up Arrow, Down Arrow, and #1 pressed simultaneously for 3 seconds. The pump went throw the prime and then nominal speed schedule. However, the #1 continued to blink and the pump did not follow the original schedule and runs continuously.

I am able to change speeds through the Easy Touch as before. I used the Quick Touch remote to change the speeds. However, the pump runs continuously and I can not get into service mode as before.

Hope this answers your initial questions and you have some further ideas.

Pav,

The only way the EasyTouch can control the SuperFlo VS is by using individual relays in the EasyTouch that route a low voltage input from the pump through the relay and then back to the pump. When the relay is closed it tells the pump to go to a preprogrammed speed. This speed has to be programmed into the pump using the pump's control panel.

I think you may just have to "Activate External Control Only mode:" See page 6 of this manual... https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&ved=0ahUKEwiutJSBj9XWAhUURWMKHXo9BsUQFghIMAA&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.pentairpool.com%2F~%2Fmedia%2Fwebsites%2Fpool%2Fdownloads%2Fpumps%2Fmanuals%2Fsuperflo_vs_variable_speed_pump_manual_for_model_342001_english.pdf&usg=AOvVaw10QU3f56RNC7uicmktTeNd

If that does not work I would try the following...

If this were my system, the first thing I would do is temporarily removed the little control wire cable the runs between the pump and your EasyTouch.

Then I would use the manual and set up the pump's clock and then see if the pump runs correctly using just the pump's control panel.

I would then program or reprogram the speeds that you want your pump to run when controlled by automation.

Then I would reconnect the control cable and see what happens.

I guess my point is.. if you reset the pump it may no longer have any speeds programmed into it.

Thanks,

Jim R.

I have been using the manual that you have provided with a link. I can not get past the 1st step since the Start/Stop button does not respond.

Your optional idea of disconnecting the Easy Touch to the pump may work and I will try this soon. If I can then get control of the pump through the pump's panel I will change the clock. This may be all that I would need to do since the speeds that I can now control through the Easy Touch are the correct ones. I assume that the schedule and setting of the clock are integral and setting the clock will allow the schedule to run and the pump will no longer run continuously. I believe that the pump's local speed schedule has been retained and only the clock needs to be set.

I hope that disconnecting the control cable works.

I will let you know soon.

Jim

Tried unplugging the control cable between the Easy Touch and Pump. The pump immediately stopped. The Start/Stop green LED and External LED remained lit.

After pressing the Start/Stop button several times, it reacted and turned off the Start/Stop LED. Then I was able to get the External LED to extinguish by the normal method in the manual. Then I was able to run the pump manually and set the clock. However, the #1 LED is still blinking and I assume that I have to go through the complete schedule to stop the LED from blinking and the schedule to run properly. Just want to write this down and let you know where I am at.

So now I can get control of the pump and change some things.

I reconnected the control cable and placed the pump in external mode and started the pump. It went through the prime and then to nominal speed.

I have some other things to check and still may need to make some adjustments but at least we are making progress.

Next I have to learn more about the Easy Touch and how it is programmed.

Your suggestion to remove the control cable was key. I am a pretty good trouble shooter having been involved in electronic aircraft engine control design and integration but in this case your troubleshooting skills came shinning through. Thanks.
