Can't open spa sta rite cartridge filter

My spa over the weekend got a bunch of grass clippings blown into it and I noticed it almost seemed like they were come back out the returns, which made me think maybe the people before us didn't even leave a filter in the spa rite as there is a "spare" in the garage. I went to open it, with pumps off did the air release, i then pushed the safety latch and unscrewed the ring about 3 spins. It then gets caught and looking at the top of the unit it looks almost like it can't go completely off as there are plastic nubs above it which it's stuck on. Am I missing something? The side say it's one of the pxc75, 95, 125, 150 models. It looks like the one on the left here:


When I get the ring as far as I can turn it, i can't get the top off to verify there is a filter in there or if I need to add one. The pressure is about 8psi when running if that matters, but we had the spa run all night and there is still a good amount of stuff suspended when you turn the light in the spa, shouldn't that be filtered out? So have that question and how to get it open.

Sounds like you may have some tabs caught on something between the lid and housing. Maybe. Here was a somewhat similar discussions that might help.

Will try the rubber hammer, picked one up today just for it. So here are the pictures of it:


In the second one you can see the plastic knob that won't let the ring above it. The ring doesn't fully come off does it? Just want to be sure I don't damage anything here. I did try getting it as far as I could and popping the pump on for a second to see if it'd push it off but no luck.

Got it, rubber mallet worked, the ring is attached to the upper part and just pushed it apart. The filter was completely brown inside, switched it with a much cleaner one we found in the garage and washed it out some, but will do a better job later.
