Since new plaster in May I have added 15 lbs of stabilizer to my 13k pool The last 8 being Clorox brand Test before the last 4 lbs was in the 10-20 range according to my eyesight Added last 4 lbs last week and it got up to around 50 The heat is brutal and I increased my pump time from 6 hours to 8 and increased my IC60 from 40% to 60% to keep up with the FC demand Pool has zero shade and gets full sun all day. Have lived in this house for 8 years now and have never seen my stabilizer disappear like this summer Shut my pool down this last weekend (2 days) and did a leak test Setup 3 buckets for control Pool and buckets all went down the same amount (about 1 inch) so no apparent leak causing my stabilizer issues. Acid demand is definitely higher this summer since I am having to add more like .75 to 1 gallon per week. Until this summer it has always been around .5 gallon per week to keep my pH in range. Last thing is 4 extra bags of salt this summer which is more than I have ever added

So is it a condition with new plaster? Heat related? Just going crazy trying to figure out why I can't get it stable like it always has been.

Any thoughts or ideas would be helpful

Your profile doesn’t say how you are testing the CYA?

Yeah, something isn't adding up. It's crazy hot for sure, but 15 lbs in your pool is 140 ppm of CYA. We can lose anywhere from 5-10 ppm per month, but more than that and I'd be suspicious.

What is your water temperature?

High pool water temperatures will cause the chlorine to oxidize Cyanuric Acid. This tends to show in water temperatures of 90+ degrees. Every 10F increase in temperature results in roughly doubling the rate of degradation.

In an area with 90+ pool water temperatures and extreme sunlight exposure 10+ ppm of CYA a month can be lost through degradation.

There have also been some reports again this year of certain CYA brands breaking down too soon. Try a different brand, I've had good experiences with Puritech from Amazon. It's a good proce per pound also.

Also, an IC60 running 8 hours at 60% makes 3.7 FC in perfect conditions for 13,100 gallons. Many of your fellow LoneStarians would be thrilled with a 4 FC or less loss.

Before my new plaster I had wet areas where my pool was leaking After new plaster they all dried up Was convinced that I had a major leak due to the CYA loss But the leak test proved me wrong To say the least I was shocked when the pool level didn’t go down

Water temp at 5:30pm is 95 degrees

Switching back to Rx Clear CYA which I have used in the past Not a fan of Clorox as their salt stained my pool

Only thing I can surmise is my CYA is breaking down due to the heat Higher acid use makes sense due to the longer run time My FC stays around 5-6 which I’m happy with Pool is crystal clear with no other issues

I have not had good luck with Clorox stabilizer. After adding it , the cya levels didn't rise to near the expected level. I will not use it anymore. Have been pleased with puritech also.
