Can't find variable speed pump motor (1.5hp) - Help

My pump motor has finally given it last:
Emerson U.S. Motor, square flange
1.5hp - full rate
230v
Connected to a Supatuf pump.

After reading about variable speed pumps, especially those with digital controllers, I got excited and started searching. Found inyo pools had one listed, but talking to them, it was discontinued in my size.
I am finding nothing else that will work, not even two-speed pumps. Only single speed direct replacements

Is there an source for a motor that will fit?
Is there an aftermarket device, maybe built into a timer, that will reduce the flow rate of the pump through the motor (like a rheostat)?
Any advice appreciated.

I assume you meant a Superflo pump?

It would amaze me if Inyopools does not have a motor for your pump.

It's a Waterco Supatuf Pump.
According the guy from inyo, they have discontinued a lot of the motor models that fit my pump. They do have one motor that is 1.67hp and the next jumps to 2.7hp. He did not recommend either, and said I need a single speed motor, the USQ1152. While I certainly appreciate that it is half the price of the motor I wanted, I would rather have a variable or at least 2 speed.

Maybe post a picture of your pump and set-up. I cant imagine a situation where a Pentair Superflo VS pump wont work . They are about the only 1.5hp VS pump that can accept 115v or 220v , and easily adapt from either 1 1/2" or 2" plumbing .

Maybe forget about trying to just replace just the motor, and replace the whole pump . Will pay for itself in no time.
I just purchased a new Pentair Superflo VS for my system for $598 OTD with no tax or shipping. I will give you the website name if you are interested .....

If you have my luck, I would replace just the motor .......only to have the pump go bad a month later , lol !

Just go with a whole new pump !

Here you go. I had to remove the pump as the inyo rep wanted me to get a part number off the impeller. Of course it is coming off the left of the pump, sitting on the frame mount.

I'm not afraid of generic equipment. There are 3 of these in my neighborhood ALL working perfectly.

I dont see why you couldnt put a whole pump in instead of just a motor. You have plenty of PVC to work with .......... nice open equipt pad. Doesn't look too hard at all to work within your pad .
Pump looks to be approx 10 years old already ?
Maybe time for a whole new pump/motor replacement ?

This setup is 9 years old, this summer. When I was getting specs on the motor, the distributor said that motors of this vintage, and newer, should last 3 to 5 years. (He said the casting are much lower quality than they used to be.) So I guess I got more than they expected.

How long does the actual pump part usually last?

OP, you may want to check with your local electric company if they offer rebates on VS pump.
Just an fyi, Duke Energy offers $300 rebates. If you can get a brand new Superflo VS for $598 as mentioned in the above post (less $300 rebates), then I think it's a no brainer!

I agree with what others have said about replacing the whole pump/motor. I just went through this same situation this week - old single speed motor died. My local utility is giving $400 rebates on variable speed pumps. Take that off the $650 I paid and it cost me less for a whole replacement than just a motor. Plus it is easier to install, took 45 minutes.

Duke Energy requires this:
"•Your new variable-speed pool pump must be installed by a participating contractor and operable before you submit your rebate application."
It would cost me more to have a contractor install it than what the rebate is worth.
