I took some underwater pictures (with a real old camera) of the return in my my plaster pool built in the 90's. I don't know what make or model it is and attached 3 pics to show the size, the insides and a lateral view that seems to show the inner piece directing water an an angle. I see two knob like things on the left and right side and wasn't sure if you use those to remove it or if it needs a special tool. Searched pics online and didn't find anything matching. Found a popular tool for sale online and it's advertised to work with a hayward sp1419a eyeball return or compatible 1.5" returns, but again I'm not sure if my return is a hayward. Not sure if that tool will work if the knobs are not the way to remove it.

The reason I would like this info is that as part of ph balance, the tpf online calculator says, I need to aerate sometimes. I found online a "pool cooling"pvc pipe fountain/waterfall that would do the job of aerating, that plugs into standard return, but I'm not sure if the fitting would be compatible.
