Can/should I run my pool cleaner robot before I open my pool?

Just got a new pool installed late last year in Massachusetts. I ended up leaving the pool uncovered for the winter, so there's a bunch of leaves and dirt in the pool that needs to get cleaned out. I've been scooping leaves but there's not much I can do about the dirt. The pool company is set to come back in a couple of weeks to open the pool, at which point I assume a lot of the dirt/etc. will be taken care of by the filtration system.

I purchased a pool cleaner from Margaret and Marina Pool, Spa and Patio - she was great to work with!

Can/should I drop it in the pool and let it go to work before my pool opens to help reduce the junk that's in there ahead of time? Or should I wait until after the pool gets opened?

I'm a completely new to pools, so any advice appreciated.

Thanks!

I threw mine in and let it go to town.. I had to empty the basket after every run but it worked... The only downside between a robot and my old school suction side cleaner is I could run my suction side cleaner for 2 days straight and the robot will only do 2 hours at a time.. :)
