Hi all, I've gotten some great advice from this forum for the last few years. Thanks to all the excellent contributors.
I just pulled the cover off my pool.
Can I power wash above the water line to clean the staining? I don't want to drain the pool completely.
If yes, I also wonder if there is an additive or anything I can use in the power washer to enhance cleaning effort.
It is a gunite pool.
Any feedback would be appreciated.

Welcome to TFP.

Yes, you can gently power wash your waterline tile.

What type of tile do you have?

I would be very careful not to erode your grout lines. And if you have old tile and grout it could loosen them.

I would not use any additive and only use water that would go into your pool.

Thanks for the reply.
I was asking more about the actual pool wall as opposed to the tile. The part below the tile. It's got a fair amount of light brown staining.

BE CAREFUL with the power washer. Too high a pressure and you could easily blast off the plaster if you hit a delaminated spot.

You can easily carve your initials in concrete with a pressure washer, so the plaster on a pool won't hold up to it well at all if you get very aggressive. I'd only use it as a last resort.

Personally I would not do it. I would raise the water level and run the FC at 1/2 SLAM level and see how much the chlorine lightens the area during the summer. I might also scrub the area using a Magic Eraser and elbow grease.
