In the fall when I closed the pool, I asked my son to carry the pump into the house. This spring, I went downstairs to get the pump and it wasn't there. I walked outside and sure enough the pump was sitting on the ground outside where it had sat all winter (one of the worst snow and rain winters we've had in a while). I plugged it in and sure enough it was seized. I took it to my neighbour who was able to unseize it last spring and he did it again this year. However, now it is running very loud, so I anticipate the bearings are shot and I'm going to have to replace it. Lesson learned!
Anyway... I don't have the money to replace it right now with another Hayward, so I've looked on Amazon and found a 2HP (I had a 1HP Hayward Super Pump before) for only $200 CAD. I read the reviews and they were very good (5 stars).
However, the pump says on the label "For indoor use only". So, I would like to figure out a way to protect if from the elements. The Hayward was just sitting on a concrete pad open to the elements last year (the pool store said that was okay). I was thinking of putting it in a rubbermaid deckbox with a flip-up lid. But, then I thought that because there are no ventilation holes that the pump would probably overheat. Is there a way that I can cover the pump to protect it??
I can't build a whole shed around the concrete pad (while was my original plan). The reason is that due to local building code the heather would then need a chimney and it can't be within so many feet of a window. Because of where the equipment is located, I cannot have a chimney on the heater because there is a window above.
I could build an enclosure to just surround the pump, sand filter and chlorinator, but I don't know what is best. Would appreciate any help I can get.
