Can I add liquid chlorine to a pool with some calcium-hypochlorite pucks?

Liquid Chlorine
I bought some cal-hypho pucks that don’t contain any cya to put in the skimmer when I’m on vacation. They work okay but now that I’m back I want to get back to using the liquid chlorine. Is there a danger in adding a jug of liquid chlorine into the pool directly when there is still the cal-hypo pucks in the skimmer?

You really shouldn’t put them in the skimmer, even though the bag says they’re skimmer tablets.

So put them in the floater instead? Do I need a new floater then since the one I had was used with tri-chlor or di-chlor?

Also curious why I shouldn’t put them in the skimmer?

A floater would be better. If you shut your pump off for any length of time, the pucks keeps dissolving and then when the pump turns back on, the acidic stee gets pulled right into your equipment.

This is all good info. Thanks. I only put two pucks in this time and the pump runs frequently enough. When they are done and dissolved I’ll get a new floater for them.

So I got a new floater to add the Cal-Hypo tablets to and it has a big caution label that says not to add it to the floater. Is the reason because they don’t want someone in the future to not know it was cal-hypho that was in here and drop trichlor pucks in?

I just can’t see any reason why you can’t add the cal-hypho pucks to this floater.

Their covering their butts because it's sold as a tab feeder.

I had a buddy toss some tabs in an old cal-hypo bucket and it blew up a few minutes later. It didn't appear to have any leftover dust in it but evidentally it doesn't take much.

Maybe mark it so you know for the future.

Exactly what I thought. If I ever sell the house or whatever I’ll probably just toss the feeder so nobody else tries to use it. Personally I only put liquid chlorine in there and the cal-hypo tabs are the only tablets I will use when I’m on vacation.
