Can I add bleach like this?

I have a 28000 in-ground gunnite pool and this year I am trying to make the switch from chlorine tabs to bleach. So far so good but already in the May heat of Dallas Tx, I find myself adding 1 to 1.5 gallons of 8.25% per day, typically by manually dumping half in the morning and half when I get home from work. I’ve been reading here about bleach metering pumps etc and have been considering that but today I thought of something else. My pool used to have an ozone oxidizer which stopped working years ago. The ~1/4 inch tubing that used to be connected to the oxidizer is still connected to my pool plumbing. I tested it and it has a small amount of suction. So I stuck the end of the tube previously connected to the ozone generator in to a gallon of water and, sure enough, it sucks the water very slowly from the bottle - presumably into my pool water
Question is - is this a viable alternative to a bleach pump if I just stick the tube in the bleach and let it gradually suck it out? Or is there something else I can damage by doing it this way?
Thanks
