Can a Jandy Filter Tank Collar Wear Out?

This part.

17 year old pool, never had a leak problem. Cleaned the filter today, put it all back together and once it's halfway full, start leaking at the back of the collar where the parts all connect. Empty the filter, check everything, seems good. Start up again, happens twice.

More meticulous in my approach, I clean, rotate and check o-ring and the inside of where the plastic matches up when sealing and everything is clean. Put it back together and crank it really tight. Still a very small drip at the very back. Tighten more and I can live with the drip but this has to be fixed.

So, do these wear out or is there something else I need to check?

Thank you.

Filter model number?

Did you clean the interior and exterior of the clamp? The filter housing where the clamp touches?

Did you lube the O-ring with silicone lube (like Magic Lube #2)?
The O-ring is a wear item and sometimes needs to be replaced.

Do the filter instructions for the clamp indicate that the spring must be fully compressed?

First off, thank you.

Yes, cleaned the clamp, O-ring and the plastic on top and bottom of filter where it seals.
Yes, lubed O-ring and checked it. No damage. Rotated it but leak happened no matter.
Filter instructions lost 17 years ago.....

I cranked the S out of it tightening and there is no leak today so I am okay but thinking I might need to replace that clamp.

thinking I might need to replace that clamp.
Per the google, it's been real cold by you and all the o-rings shrink. It very well may fix itself when it warms up a little.

If not, 17 years is a heckuva run. I'd replace the o-ring first, although it's really more of a rubber hula hoop IMO, because the clamps are usually more expensive. Then I'd replace the clamp. If it still dripped, then one of the filter halves have warped and I wouldn't replace half the filter. For one, it costs 3/4 of a new filter. For two, how much longer will the other half last ?

But all that is after it warms up because it's probably the cold that's causing the drips.

A new O ring is in order for starters and then I'd recommend to clean both halves where it meets the oring and run your finger completely around both parts to be sure there isn't any debris stuck. Lube the oring well and also the concave area on both halves. Make sure it sits pretty and install the band. As soon as there's some pressure at the screw stop and use a rubber mallet starting from the hinged portion in the back and work the mallet 180° each direction to the screw end. Then tighten again. When feeling the pressure it's rinse and repeat with the mallet. As long as there's less pressure at the screw after using the mallet you know it's still coming together.
