Calcium Hypochlorite

I have been learning a lot here and need more help. I have slammed and replaced a lot of water to get my pool down to normal levels over the past 3 weeks. All is good and I have switched to liquid chlorine from pool store shock and various products. When I first found TFP my CA was through the roof, 550. I was using pucks. Now it’s very happy. I have been cleaning out the old products and have a bucket of calcium hypochlorite. Don’t know why I have it, but it seems to me CA is the last thing I want to add to my pool. Any advice on what to do with it?

Whether you want to use the cal-hypo depends on your CH test results.

Do you drain any water in the winter?
Get a lot of rain?

There is a little confusion about your first post because you say your CH was high and appear to suggest it was due to tablets. But the tablets add CYA, not CH.

I am using the fantastic TF-100 test kit.

My CH and CYA were really high. So I drained over 50% of the water. It worked well and I slammed to clear up an algae bloom. All is great now. Just want to know what to do with this bucket of product. I bought it a few seasons ago, I don’t remember why. But I don’t want to deal with high CH again if I can help it.

Also, we don’t drain off any water during the winter. And yes we get a lot of rain. We’re in the Portland area.

I would just hold onto it and use it if your CH gets too low (after a lot of rain).
Or post it up for sale or free in the Coffee Bar forum or your local Craigslist
