*just have to add to make absolutely sure your mix bucket is sterile from whatever else it’s been used for. Pool chemicals go boom with just a trace of leftovers sometimes. The different forms of chlorine are particularly not fond of each other, for example.

Safe Pool Chemical Handling
Never mix different chemicals together.
Mixing different chemicals can create very dangerous, toxic and explosive results.
Mixing calcium hypochlorite with anything is one of the most dangerous types of mixtures
A full bag of cal-hypo will not fully dissolve in a gallon of water so do be very sure to brush the granules around that settle to the bottom until they dissolve. Cal-hypo sitting against plaster can bleach the color from it. It also creates a highly alkaline solution that can easily cause cloudiness in the water due to the precipitation of calcium carbonate. That can take a long time to clear with a sand filter. Cal-hypo is better applied by broadcasting it around the perimeter of the pool while aiming towards the middle of the pool. Premixing a bucket of cal-hypo and water can cause a really noxious mixture that can give off some powerful chlorine odor.
