Calcium hardness, vinyl pool, and Raypak heater

I understand that low calcium levels are not an issue for vinyl pools. My test indicated a score of 100 ppm, and Raypak recommends a level of 200 to 400. Pool math indicated adding a great deal of calcium chloride, about 577 ounces to bring the level up to 250 ppm. That is close to 100 pounds of chemical. is this recommended? Am I crazy? Thank you

As an aside my TA is 170 and I am working on lowering it a level under 120.
