Calcium chloride smells

Hi guys,
Yesterday I bought my second 40 kilo tub of cal hypo ,the old one when removing the lid the fumes near took my breath away this new one I can hardly smell. Is this normal ?

Are you talking about calcium chloride or calcium hypochlorite?

Calcium chloride should not have much smell.

Calcium hypochlorite will only have a strong smell if it gets exposed to moisture. If it stays dry, it should not smell. If dust gets stirred up, you will smell it some.

Do you think moisture may have gotten in to the older tub??

Thanks James, cal hypo I was quizzing the old cal hypo I used for 5 months so I could be a little damp,this new Japanese cal hypo is more granular and no smell
