When installing a skimmer with a butterfly gasket I need to cut the liner first correct? So it can overlap both the liner on the inside and pool wall on the outside?

I think Hayward has changed their instructions.
It used to be install the skimmer, punching out the holes, remove the skimmer, install the gasket over the wall AND the liner, reinstall the skimmer.
The instructions now state to install the gasket from outside the pool, over both sides of the wall and under the liner. Then install your skimmer, making sure everything is kept smooth. Finally cut out the liner. being careful not to cut the gasket.
