Hi! First post here, but I've learned a ton from this forum over the recent months. We will be building a 32x16 ft pool in the coming months. in preparation for this, we have abandoned a sewer line that ran through the place where the pool will be (allow the long axis of the pool). This line was installed only 2 years ago and runs probably 5-7 feet deep in the area where the pool will be. A few weeks ago we placed a new sewer line ~4-5 ft away from where the pool will go (requiring excavation at equivalent depth). Considerable settling happened over the recent 2 years along the old line where the trench was dug and I SUSPECT the dirt is done settling there... but I am still concerned that we may have a 2 ft wide strip of unstable soil through part of our pool (maybe the shallow end, likely not the deep end since it's depth will exceed the depth of the old sewer line). Is this a problem? If so, might there be a way to be proactive such that we don't have settling and damage to the pool in the future? Should I have the excavator dig out the old trench and fill/compact properly? How about the pool walls? Should I be concerned about the 2 ft wide strip of the walls where dirt was excavated for the sewer line? Thoughts? Your input would be hugely appreciate!
Edit - I suspect a structural engineer might be in the cards for this question... but I thought this group might have some broader insight to help me wrap my mind around this.
