bubbles in pump strainer glass

Have you emptied out your filter basket recently? When that has happened to me I first check the lid and gasket because sometime a leaf or small twig and cause an faulty seal at the lid which can also let air in.

That won't be the problem because when the main drain is open there are no bubbles in the pump basket only when the skimmer line is open
If the "O" ring and lid was a problem it would be constant

That is a suction side air leak between your skimmer and the valve you turned off
Thanks, would water be coming out when this happens, and what should I do now dig and follow the line, also should I been losing water in the pool
because it still gets good suction when I use the creepy crawler but I have not been using it until I no what's going on.
Thanks again for your help.

The water may be leaking slightly but not enough to be a problem ( you would know if it was leaking a lot)
If you are prepared to investigate check out either end first
If the Kreepy crawler works and just bubbles come out of the returns use it
The long vacuum hose puts a extra load on the suction side (you could try another hose that you know is ok just to make sure it's not the hose)
