I've been battling a brown residue that may be mustard algae. FC has always been over 6 with CYA of 60. On Poolmath, for my chlorine readings, I get a warning that the target (24) is outside the range. Why does it say this when SLAM is selected?

It is just a note to ensure you really want to SLAM.

Go ahead, with SLAM on, and enter your Liquid Chlorine % and use the recommendation to hit your slam level.

Turn your SWCG off during SLAM.

Thanks. I passed a OCLT at 12 so i won’t SLAM and I don’t think it’s algae, but maybe pollen. Can a FC of 12 cause somewhat cloudy water?

No. Post a pic.

Was the SWCG off last night?
Yes, it was off, same with pump. I retested this morning before pump came on and sampled water from same place in the pool. Here is a pic of the deep end with drain and rebel. Perhaps turning off the pump would make a better pic. The light-brownish dust keeps settling on the bottom and steps.

Should this thread be moved to the appropriate forum? I don’t want the wrath of the mods to smite me. 😮I updated the title but cannot move the forum.

Looks like you are in an enclosure, so not likely dust/dirt. Get the filter up to snuff.

Do you have a manual vacuum? If so, turn the pump off overnight, let it settle, then carefully vacuum the bottom of the pool in the morning. That may help.

Pump is now clean and has new tubing and new pressure gauge. However the pressure gauge barely moves at 3000rpm.
We had a couple gradually dying extra large potted poinsettias on the patio until last Sunday since Xmas so I figured that could be the source.

Is the filter media in the filter?

How old is the gauge?
Filter was just cleaned this morning. It's maybe 2 months old. The new tube rises up the center to the top of the fiter. And the plastic circular cover is above it in the center of the filter.
Gauge is brand new Hayward genuine I put in today. The old one was over 20 yrs old and well worn. I pulled off the lid and made sure nothing is blocking the gauge inside.

What speed are you running the pump. Run it at 3000 rpm and not pressure. You won't see pressure changes at low RPM.

Always use 3000 rpm to check pressure.

I'll try the manual vacuum in the morning. I just got 6 gals of 10% pool chlorine and am home from work til Tuesday, so I can do a SLAM. My poolmath logs are available here.

This morning still had brown sediment, mostly in shallow end. Water was still cloudy. My manual vac head is 25 yrs old and does not hold th hose onto it well, so I did not use it. I brushed to the deep end and am running full suction from main drain. Next step may be to SLAM. I’ll decide on that after a couple hours of filtering.

I just checked my salt level. With the lack of rain it is now at 4200. I've searched the forums but cannot find whether the high salt level can cause cloudiness. I can add some water to get it down. The SWG thinks it is 3650, and it usually reads low compared to drop test. New results are posted and linked here.

Salt will not cause cloudiness, unless it was contaminated. When did you last add salt? What brand? Did it cloud right when you added the salt? If not, then it is not the salt.

Thanks. The salt was a while back, so that's not the cause. Drat! I only buy Morton or Diamond pool salt. Level has been rising as water level dropped with the heat, sun, and no rain. I may add a couple inches of water. From what I've read here, clearing up cloudiness is the filter's job, and not any chemicals, so I will keep filtering.

Water is clear this morning after letting pump run all night. There was still some brownish sediment on floor in shallow end, but much much less than earlier in the week. Thanks @PoolStored for the assistance.
