Broken Adapter

I noticed a drip coming from my adapter that went from my skimmer into my filter pump....tried taking the adapter out...and it broke. I have been trying all day..numerous times to try to get this out, so I can
put a new adapter in. The adapter had been teflon taped and there was also pipe dope put on it too.....HELP!!! Any suggestions how to get this piece out of the pump so I can put the new adapter in?
