I am using the LaMotte borate test strips. Per my test today the test strip read 15ppm. Is it possible to have Borate in the pool if you have not added it?? This is a 2 year old inground Pebbletec 12,000 gal salt water pool using all Pentair equipment.

But if you have added Borax for any reason, that will add Borates.
I AM USING A NEW LAMOTTE test strip kit. It is very difficult to tell what the true reading is using test strips. It appears I am in the 15 to 30 ppm range.

I just recently heard about the benefits of Borate here at TROUBLE FREE POOL. I AM VERY INTERESTED. It appears the weak spot is in testing for Borate using the LaMotte test strips.

It does recommend the test strips as there really isn't a better way to test for borates. But you also don't need to be super-precise with your borate levels. See the article for more info

There is a better way to test for borates, but it is a little more complicated.

New borate drop test at piscines-apollo vs. test strip
Any opinions on this? I have a K2006, so I already have everything I need (except the borate kit itself). I like the idea of drops/colour changes vs. a strip, but am open to your opinions. Would I be better off just getting the LaMotte strips? Speaking of strips, I can also get borate test...

The strips go bad very quickly. I was able to get the first one to match close to the amount of boric acid I added, but after a month all the strips read way off in differing directions.Here's the TFP Wiki article on Borates.
