Blue pool water on backwash, liner?

I just backwashed my pool and the water was a pretty bright blue. I am thinking that it could be from my liner as it is approx 16 years old.

My water is not cloudy at all. There is definitely fading around the main drain, as the liner is nearly white in that area.

Is it time to replace the liner? As it seems fine in all other areas

Blue dyes are the hardest to manufacture or use on liners, I've heard.

If the problem is only fading you could decide to live with that until the liner is weakened or damaged. Or you could change it out now. Its your call if the only problem is fading.

A 16 year old liner is quite remarkable, I'll say! That's a testament to your chemistry care. :goodjob: :

Thanks I am hoping to get through this season at least

That's really strange.

Blue dye from the liner probably isn't going to do that. It might be copper, but it doesn't look like copper.

It's looks like possibly paint.

Maybe a picture of the pool would help.

Do you have a list of all chemicals that you have added in the last 6 months?

Here is a pic of the pool.
I have used bleach, but I am currently getting rid of my left over Cal hypo powder and 3" trichlor pucks, before I go to exclusively bleach.

I have also added Borax to raise ph and baking soda for total all

I really don't think that the liner could cause the problem, but I don't know what it could be, especially if this is the first time that it has happened.

If you rub your hand on the liner, does anything come off?

Does anything get caught in the cleaner bag?
