We've noticed the moss on our moss rock, is becoming bleached where it is in contact with the water; which makes sense, since I'm keeping our FC on the high end of the TFP range for our CYA levels.

The pool is only 2.5 weeks filled, and it's taken this long for the moss to turn white. The dead/white moss is starting to fall off the rock causing white flecks in the pool, but so far, hasn't impacted the water chemistry.

I think my best course of action is to just use a brush and knock off all the moss which is at or below the water line, as well as anywhere on the waterfall where it is in contact.

That said, I've no idea if the moss (dead or alive) can contribute to algae at all, so thought I'd ask just to be sure.

In this pic, the red circle shows the dead/bleached moss, while the blue shows the unaffected moss.

Seems like an odd place for chlorine from pool water to have any affect. Any idea why there and not in the blue area?

It's because the red is part of the waterfall, so the pool water flows across it when the waterfall is running.

Sorry, I should have explained that better in the post. I took the pic at this angle because I was able to capture both bleached and non-bleached moss in the same frame.

I understand now.

I am not sure about this but could it be calcium deposits? If you can drop some muriatic acid onto the white flakes and they fizz, that's a pretty good indicator of calcium.

No, it's definitely the moss turning white. It's easily removed by rubbing with my finger as well. A soft bristled brush will take it all off without much effort. Once it's in the water, vacuuming and the filter will pick it up .... I'm just not sure if it's going to put me at risk for adverse chemistry .... I realize moss/fungi/algae are all different things, just not sure if the dead/bleached moss is something I need to deal with in any particular way. Or if my plan of using a brush to clean it off the rocks, and then vacuum/filter to remove it from the water is a solid approach.
