If you get the effervescent type of vitA, they dont work well. Get regular tablets and crush them.

Thanks, @Flying Tivo! These were regular tabs. . . But a question--these stains are on the walls--if we crush them to apply, how would you do that?

So, I would crush a bunch up, put them in a nylon, hold it on the wall until they dissolved and see if that area darkened?

If its iron it will disappear, with other metals i dont know.
