Between CircuPool SJ40 or SJ55 - maybe even used?

I think I'm getting closer and closer to SWG - but having a tough time deciding between the two. I have ~27k pool - and looking at all the calculators and math junk, either seems OK. I know it's generally bigger the better for SWG, but is the 55 overkill? I only lose about 1ppm of FC per day typically - and pool is only open during summer months. I do have a VS pump that only runs above 1500rpm for 6-8 hours if that helps/hurts. I think CircuPool SJ Series is the only brand I can fit into my current plumbing setup. I think SJ40 is around $620 now, SJ55 is $770. Money is a little tight right now so that's why really entertaining the 40vs55!

I've also come across a used (1 season) older SJ60 for ~$500...is that really worth looking into?

Ah - thanks! I hadn't looked at the line before - prices are pretty close to CircuPool - how is the reliability on them? I gotta check the installation specs - I have very limited space on my pipes - anything over 8/9" installation is pushing it!

Appreciate the links!

You want at least 2x the size of your pool (so that would be the 55K), or you may have to run the SWG over 12 hours a day in the summer. The only "off" brand around here I've seen many positive comments on is circupoool but it's ultimately up to your preference...

+1 on the Circupool SJ55, love the Circupool and have had an SJ45 on my pool for over 3 years and no issues, just works...

That SJ60 would be an awesome buy... just wondering why they took it out?? I think it would use the SJ55 for replacement...

Thanks for the info - the story was they had bad city water with high phosphate levels. I know that's not quite right, but maybe they were told that by a tech or something? I'm going to email to find out. Here's a picture of the salt cells - does that look like a years worth of use? Looks a little scale-y - but if I am thinking correctly that is what phosphates would do.

I would buy that one in a heartbeat and enjoy it for at least another 3 to 5 years.. Just bring your PH down to 7.1 and your TA between 70 to 80 and it will clean that up in a week :)

Remember circupool does not recommend an acid bath only using a wooden paint stick to knock off the big chunks of scale...

Man - I didn't realize that was the cleaning method - all those years of storing my paint sticks might pay off then??!! Except I didn't pay for them...but you know what I mean. I'm leaning towards the used one if I can get it for an OK price. It did stay plumbed in for a season which has me a little concerned...but cells still seem like they are in good shape.

Just my .02 if you are buying a used SWG you should be paying less than 1/2 the new $770 (and if it was used for a season or more and cleaned with acid then I wouldn't even pay that much). Circupool doesn't even make an "SJ60" so how did they get one and when. If you buy the new one you get the support, warranty and service that everyone around here talks about. If you buy one used you get a mystery...I'm only bringing this up because I'm pretty sure you will have an excellent experience with a new SWG but I have no idea what kind of experience you will get with a used mystery model. Good luck!

Discount Salt Pool is having a promotion. After reviewing this, I m seriously considering making a switch to SWG. Just need to get a few electrical questions answered and the trigger may be pulled. Of course, I have to get approval from finance Officer (wife)

Snip: EXAMPLE: You want to receive the SJ40, so you click on the SJ20 and choose the ‘Upgrade to SJ40 +$10’ option. Then you add the item to the cart and get the SJ40 for only $619 (regularly on sale for $759)!

I purchased the RJ45 with the upgrade option and just installed it last weekend. For the money doesn't seem like you can beat it. Just make sure you buy PVC rated for pressure (assuming you need to add some).
