Bestway Pool Rust prevention ideas

2 year old thread, but thought I'd keep it all together. What about using waterproof spray foam in the pipes, then cut off the ends when dry. For the T-junctions, plastic would be better if they are metal but not much you can do if metal. Maybe Silicone caulk before and after you insert the pipes? Thoughts?

Hey all, I've had 5 10 or 12' round Intex style pools, running salt water system for main chlorination. Of course this makes rust an issue every year. With a $100-200 pool not a huge sacrifice, but moving up to a 16x10 since the kids are getting bigger. Hoping to make it last as long as possible, even with salt system. 3 or 4 years would be great. I commented on an existing thread, but welcome tips. I'm planning on waterproof spray foam inside the steel pipes, cut off the excess and spray with anti-rust coating for the edges. Not sure on product, maybe Boeshield T-9, but not sure it would last in hot FL sun.

FWIW, I sprayed a coat of Boeshield T9 last summer on the inside and outside all of the metal parts of my Intex 12' x 30" Prism frame pool with SWG. The pool was up for 4-5 months and some rust managed to form on the bottom of several of the legs along the inner seam. To be fair, these specific legs were exposed to saltwater on a daily basis as I had a consistent leak which I couldn't nail down. As a result, the salt water would pool up around the base of those legs.

That aside, none of the cross beams appear to have developed any rust. I plan to remove the rust from the affected legs, repaint, and reapply T9 when I put the pool back up in the coming weeks. I also bought a new liner so in theory, I should have finally nailed down that leak from last season.

Truck bedliner is an interesting idea. Not sure how something like that would look on a pool though.

The above video is interesting. The spray foam is a decent way to prevent rust inside the uprights, however, that won't stop water from pooling at the top of the foam cap. I've also seen plenty of people state that rustoleum fails to prevent rust in saltwater pool applications so... I guess only time will tell.

I personally would not use Rustoleum for a SW based pool. There are marine based paints that are much better suited to handle this.
