best place to buy new IC40 replacement cell

My MIL needs to replace her Pentair IC40 cell. Prices seem to vary widely online. I am always hesitant to order something so expensive from a website/webstore that I don't know. Does anyone know of a webstore that is both reputable and has good prices on replacement cells?

How sure are you that the old one is bad?? How old is it?

About 50% of the time, when a cell is suspected of having low chlorine production, is not the cell, but a chemical balance issue.

From our understanding, the pool is about 4 yrs old. The salt level lights flash back and forth between "good" and "low salt" even though the salt level is 3600ppm (per the Taylor salt test). When we press and hold the "more" button to find out how many hours the cell has used, all of 5 of the lights are lit. From everything I've read, it just seems to have reached the end of its usable life.

Based upon that info, I would be looking for a new one also..

Have you thought about replacing the salt/flow sensor. It's $50 or less. Its very easy to do, like replacing a spark plug in a car...plus 4 crimped color coded wires. I had a similar issue and I am not saying that fixed mine. In fact, that was the first Idea. Mine was under free replacement warranty and ultimately they sent me a brand new IC40. I found Pentair service to be very good. You should call them.

I considered that, but given the number of hours of usage that the cell has registered I think it has simply reached the end of its life. I don't thing a new flow sensor would make a difference.

I suspect that you are correct on this. Just a tip: save the sensor from the old cell. It might come in handy. I had the sensor on my cell fail after about 2 years. Fortunately, I still had my old cell that went bad prematurely, and I was able to harvest the sensor. The old cell might be useful as a dummy cell.

Also, keep the extra pipe fittings. I was able to use one of my old ones, along with a $2 PVC item to create a cap for the cell. It comes in really handy when cleaning the cell and it's a lot cheaper than the $30 item that Pentair sells.
