Hi folks

We are in the process of building a pool and a large covered pavilion here in Texas. Any thoughts on the best way to keep cool under the pavilion in the summer? We will have 2 ceiling fans.

Misting systems?
Evaporative cooler system?
Portable AC type unit?

Anyone have a good solution?

thanks
Curtis

Is this going to be an open pavilion or closed? If open, I'd use screening that cuts down on UV rays, etc.

I doubt you're going to want to see a swamp cooler on top of your pavilion, but one of those small AC units up high wouldn't be amiss. The pack for them could be hidden behind a bush or something?

Misting works in low humidity. There will be days in Dallas it will not work great.

If you do mist, get a professional grade, stainless steel, 1000 psi system. It will be the best for your higher humidity and they really work. They are pricey, but worth it.

A portable swamp cooler will work some. But only if you are right in front of it. And humidity drops its' effectiveness too.

The AC would not be useful in an open pavilion.

Thanks! Are there contractors that specialize in installing these systems in Texas?

No idea - I am in Nevada! But they are fairly simple. You can buy package systems and then hire a handyman to install.

Calcium hardness of your water (just like in a pool) can cause issues with the misters.
