We're looking at replacing our current DE filter with a cartridge filter. We were already thinking of going that way as the DE filter is old and we don't want the DE buildup in the yard. Now we're getting chickens who will be in the yard and we don't want the DE exposure for chickens if it builds up in the yard and is breathed in. So, I would appreciate any input on brand/size/other considerations in buying a cartridge filter system and having it installed.

In my opinion filters are a commodity. They all do the same thing the same way. You can put any brand of filter in any pool with other equipment. Shop around for price and availability.
Get the largest cartridge filter your budget allows. The bigger the better. You can't have too large a filter.
