Liquid Chlorine
Hello,
We have a 15 x 48 intex pool and have been using pucks since we opened. We have some hth test strips that test for CYA and it is off the chart. We have been dealing with what I assume is algae for a few weeks. Husband has added shock and algicide but it keeps coming back. Water is a bit cloudy and I will attach pictures of what is on the floor. It does poof when brushed and is mostly in dead spots. I ordered the TF-100 kit yesterday and just picked up some 10% liquid chlorine to add in the evening while I wait for the kit. My question is, we have large steps with two 50 lb sand tubs to weigh them down (picture attached). My husband is out of town and I don’t know that I can detach and move them by myself to scrub every area underneath. He will be back next Sunday but will it ruin the SLAM to not scrub all of that until then? I do plan to drain off some water and replace depending on the CYA test once my kit arrives. I was thinking of trying to use the pressure nozzle on the garden hose to get underneath as best as I can. Not sure if that will help or if I should wait to start the SLAM until he gets back home and can move the steps.
I found this forum yesterday and have already learned so much! Thank you!

Here's my suggestion Erin, start today to slay that algae beast :alien: by adding a half gallon of Liquid Chlorine each day until your test kit arrives. Brush the walls and floor daily. The water will enter the stairs. I would say you could hold off moving the stairs until hubby gets home and if the algae per your testing shows its still a problem.

Just lowering the water and replacing with CYA free water will help so do that first. Don't add ANYthing else but liqiud chlorine. OK?

Thanks so much! I started draining some water off now. Should I run the pump 24/7 as I would for the SLAM?

Yes 👍🏻
Also, can u just unhook the steps from the weights so u can freely move them & scrub etc?
When the hubby gets home the weights need to come out & be inspected- if water can get in, algae can grow.
U got any sons, nephews, neighbors etc that might help u get them out before then?

I did unhook the steps so I can move them a bit side to side. I can scrub under and behind now. These weights were just Craftsman rubbermaid type bins that we filled with sand and a gallon of bleach and then siliconed shut. My husband has them all tied in because it was an awkward space and they wouldn't stay put. We decided to just buy the weights made for the steps. We'll still have to fill with sand but it will make it easier to move them to clean as needed since they fit the space and have handles. Those are coming Tuesday so I'm putting out feelers for some helpers to come help me get the old weights out. I'm afraid I'll end up dumping sand all over if I try to do anything with them on my own.
